High School Boys Basketball

Phoenix Day School for the Deaf Basketball Program is a member of the Arizona Interscholastic Association (AIA).  The Basketball Program competes in the 1A East Conference in Arizona against schools across the valley and state.  Members of the Roadrunner basketball team have the opportunity to compete in deaf tournaments in other states.  The 2023-2024 Basketball Team will be traveling to Santa Fe, NM to compete in the Roadrunner Classic Tournament and Tucson, AZ for the Western States Basketball Classic Tournament.

LaDon “LZ” Battle grew up in Phoenix and is a former student of PDSD, making his return to the school as the Head Coach of the Varsity Boys Basketball Team. After attending Arizona State University, LZ served as the Head Strength Coach at Gallaudet University. A stellar DJ on his off time, he brings a passion for sportsmanship and competition! We’re thrilled to welcome him back to the Roadrunners!

Jeff Ploederl is the Athletic Director at the Phoenix Day School for the Deaf. Originally from Manitowoc, Wisconsin, he graduated from Lincoln High School and later earned his degree from Gallaudet University in Washington, D.C. Jeff is dedicated to supporting students through sports and promoting an active, inclusive environment for all. Jeff is actually a Deaflympic champion with a bronze medal in tennis and a gold medal in basketball!
