High School Football

Phoenix Day School for the Deaf plays Eight-man Football and is a member of the Arizona Interscholastic Association (AIA).  The Football Program competes in the 1A 8-man Football Conference in Arizona against schools across the valley and state.  Members of the Roadrunner Football team have the opportunity to compete out of state against other deaf schools across the country.  The 2023 Football team will be traveling to Oklahoma School for the Deaf and Wisconsin School for the Deaf to compete.

Born in Mamaroneck, New York, David Huber is a K-12 Robotics teacher and the head coach of the varsity football team at the Phoenix Day School for the Deaf. A graduate of Blind Brook High School, he pursued further education at the Rochester Institute of Technology and National University. Now a valued member of the PDSD community, Coach Huber has dedicated the past 16 years to leading the Roadrunners, helping his athletes thrive both on and off the field. His commitment goes beyond the classroom, as he once biked across the entire state of Iowa with his 70-year-old father!

As PDSD’s Football Assistant Coach and Track Head Coach, Tyler McIntyre has a true love for the game! Originally from Cave Creek, AZ, he also teaches high school history. A proud graduate of Gallaudet University, Tyler motivates his students with the motto, “When life hits you, you hit back twice as hard!” In his free time, he enjoys road trips, having explored 25 states with his Great Dane, Atticus.

Jeff Ploederl is the Athletic Director at the Phoenix Day School for the Deaf. Originally from Manitowoc, Wisconsin, he graduated from Lincoln High School and later earned his degree from Gallaudet University in Washington, D.C. Jeff is dedicated to supporting students through sports and promoting an active, inclusive environment for all. Jeff is actually a Deaflympic champion with a bronze medal in tennis and a gold medal in basketball!
