High School Girls Basketball

Phoenix Day School for the Deaf Basketball Program is a member of the Arizona Interscholastic Association (AIA).  The Basketball Program competes in the 1A East Conference in Arizona against schools across the valley and state.  Members of the Roadrunner Basketball Team have the opportunity to compete in Deaf Tournaments in other states.  The 2023-2024 Basketball Team will be traveling to Santa Fe, NM to compete in the Roadrunner Classic Tournament and Tucson, AZ for the Western States Basketball Classic Tournament.

Kiana Vazquez is the HS Girls Assistant Basketball Coach at PDSD, where she brings her passion for the game to life! A proud alumna of both the Phoenix Day School for the Deaf and Gallaudet University, Kiana’s impressive high school career includes multiple MVP awards and six championships—talk about a winning streak! She’s dedicated to inspiring young athletes, helping them grow their skills and love for the sport.

Jeff Ploederl is the Athletic Director at the Phoenix Day School for the Deaf. Originally from Manitowoc, Wisconsin, he graduated from Lincoln High School and later earned his degree from Gallaudet University in Washington, D.C. Jeff is dedicated to supporting students through sports and promoting an active, inclusive environment for all. Jeff is actually a Deaflympic champion with a bronze medal in tennis and a gold medal in basketball!
