The Career Technical Education (CTE) department provides a wide variety of services to high school students and middle school students entering into high school. Our team works collaboratively with students in planning for their future in the areas of independent living, employment, and self-advocacy.
The CTE department offers classes such as: Driver’s Education, Senior Seminar, Career Exploration, Consumer Education and Work Experience.
Freshman and Sophomore students gain preliminary vocational awareness skills during their time in transition classes. Junior and Senior students participate in courses to gain job-seeking skills with opportunities both on and off campus with the supports of our Site Trainers. Juniors and Seniors also have the opportunity to attend vocational training in their preferred vocational trade in the Phoenix area. Students receive interpreting and tutoring services at Metro Tech and Moon Valley High School by our Career Path Technicians. In the future, we hope to have classes available at West-MEC. We are working to align our students’ interests through our partnership with the West-MEC campus. Our two Transition Specialists assist students in developing transition goals to enable them to achieve their long-term desires in the area of independent living and employment. We strive to have our students exit Arizona School for the Deaf with the skills and knowledge that will enable them to be productive members of our community and beyond.
