Cross country running is a sport in which teams and individuals run a race on open-air courses over natural terrains such as dirt or grass. The course, typically 5 kilometers (3.1 miles) long, may include surfaces of grass, and earth, pass through deserts and open country, and include hills, flat ground, and sometimes gravel roads. It is both an individual and a team sport; runners are judged on individual times and teams by a points-scoring method.

Both girls’ and boys’ teams are members of the Arizona Interscholastic Association (AIA).  We do not only compete against schools our size but also against big schools in division 1. Cross Country athletes have the opportunity to compete in challenging track meets all over Arizona, far down in Rio Rico, and far north in Flagstaff.
